The Venezuelan Sistema graduate is set to join the orchestra in September after current conductor JoAnn Falletta's three year contract comes to an end.

Winner of the 2012 Malko Conducting Competition, Payare has already worked with an impressive list of distinguished conductors and orchestras including the LA Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony and Oslo and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras. He made his debut with the Ulster Orchestra in October 2013.

"From the moment I first conducted the Ulster Orchestra in October, the players made a great impression on me," Payare said. "The chemistry was immediate and a very special bond was formed. I am really looking forward to embarking on the wonderful journey that is about to start and I am thrilled to share and be part of the Orchestra's future!"

Maestro Payare will also be leading an ambitious new programme of community engagement in Northern Ireland, including plans to introduce a programme of social musical education to young people, based on the successful El Sistema outreach project. Further conducting engagements include working with the London Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic.
