Conductor Thomas Zehetmair and Northern Sinfonia, Classic FM’s orchestra in the North East, marked the end of Northern Sinfonia’s 50th Anniversary Season by scaling the roof of their home The Sage Gateshead for a photo shoot with photographer Mark Savage.
The orchestra is now beginning another celebratory season, marking the fifth birthday of The Sage Gateshead, which was designed by Lord Norman Foster. In their first concert of the season, on Friday 9 October, Northern Sinfonia will perform Haydn’s ‘Clock’ symphony, one of his six ‘London’ symphonies; Mahler’s five touching ‘Rückert-Lieder’, with star mezzo-soprano Jane Irwin; and Brahms’s well-known and loved third symphony.
The Sage Gateshead has announced three new classical music series for this season, including the Classic FM Concert Series, which will run from 15 October 2009 to 6 May 2010. It will feature masterpieces which appear regularly on the radio station, including film scores and music which appears in television ads.
