Scottish Chamber Orchestra - 40th Anniversary Edition

A fitting celebration featuring three special performances. Classic FM Drive Featured Album, 10 February 2014.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is celebrating its 40th birthday with a brand new recording of Wagner 's Siegfried Idyll conducted by the SCO's present Principal Conductor, Robin Ticciati. Although more usually heard played by a full orchestra, this chamber ensemble version is probably closer to Wagner's premiere performance when he offered the piece as a birthday gift to his wife. Together Ticciati and the strings of the SCO bring out the work's radiantly rich tones.

The album also contains an additional hand-picked selection of works, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and Joseph Swensen. Notably, Swensen's interpretation of Sibelius ' stirring The Tempest  is a thrilling addition to this collection, while Mackerras ably commands the forces for Mozart 's Jupiter Symphony .
