Lizzo – Cuz I Love You & Truth Hurts (LIVE) - GRAMMY AWARDS 2020

By Rosie Pentreath

Grammys 2020 was quite the show – and no more than when Lizzo opened the 62nd Awards backed up by an orchestra, a ballet dancer and her loyal flute, Sasha.

“Why are flutes great until they gotta be great?” – said NO ONE EVER about Lizzo and her trusty flute, Sasha.

Because – they’ve done it again, ladies and gentlemen. The woodwind partnership to end all woodwind partnerships has ripped up the stage of the 2020 Grammys, and we’re fluting thrilled.

Belting out ‘Cuz I Love You’ and ‘Truth Hurts’ with nothing short of interstellar pizzazz – and backed by a brilliant orchestra and sensational ballet dancers – Lizzo whips Sasha the flute out and gives it her signature welly with the high notes (watch above).

In fact, Lizzo doesn’t whip the flute out at all. No. The flute *floats* down to her from the ceiling. The flute floats. It flies.

In her ‘Truth Hurts’ breakdown, Lizzo plays a screaming trill, followed by some jazzy, technical fingerwork and some more trilling, that would be the envy of any flautist – conservatoire trained or otherwise – and that frankly brings the house down.

It’s all just too great – listen to Lizzo’s incredible jazz flute solo over and over again, and revel…

In the words of Lizzo herself: “Welcome to the Grammys b****”.
