Throughout the week Classic FM’s presenters bring you the best new recordings, including world exclusives and premiere broadcasts of latest releases. This week: Mozart Piano Concertos Vol. 5 by Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Louise Farrenc: Symphony No. 1 by Solistes Européens, Luxembourg.
John Suchet plays a track from his featured Album of the Week at 10.15am every weekday.
This latest release includes performances of the great composer’s fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth piano concertos, along with the overtures to Il sogno di Scipione, La finta giardiniera, Il re pastore, Zaide and Lucio Silla.
Mozart’s Fifth Piano Concerto was actually his first, as concertos No.1 - 4 were works arranged by other composers.
Bavouzet is joined by the Manchester Camerata under the baton of Hungarian conductor Gabor Takacs-Nagy on the album.
Jean-Efflam is a multi award-winning French classical pianist who has performed alongside internationally renowned orchestras, and is currently the International Chair in Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music.
John Brunning plays a track from his featured Drive Discovery at 6.20pm every weekday.
In 2018, the Solistes Européens and conductor Christoph König came together to produce Farrenc: Symphonies Nos. 2 & 3, a release comprised of French composer Louise Farrenc’s later symphonies.
Now they reunite for another album, this time taking on Farrenc’s first symphony alongside Luxembourg-born pianist Jean Muller.
The Solistes Européens are an orchestra made up of European musicians who regularly meet to play concerts and record music.
Since 2009, they have performed under the baton of German composer Christoph König who has also guest-conducted a variety of international orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris, Danish National Symphony, Netherlands Philharmonic and others.
