Cinderella: a dark take on a fairytale

David Bintley's latest production for Birmingham Royal Ballet, of Prokofiev's Cinderella, has attracted attention for its dark interpretation.

Birmingham Royal Ballet have just had performed a week-long run of Cinderella at London's Coliseum, following a successful premiere in Birmingham in November last year.

Classic FM spoke to Artistic Director David Bintley to discover how he came to direct the ballet himself, the process of realising the production’s darker vision and the joys of Prokofiev’s score. He also told us how he feels the impending arts cuts will impact on the world of ballet.
