The legendary singer is set to return to his award-winning role as Edna Turnblad at the London Coliseum – here’s everything you need to know

Set in 1960s Baltimore, Hairspray the Musical tells the story of Tracy Turnblad – a big girl with bouffant hair and big dreams.

An avid fan of her local TV dance show, Tracy jumps at the chance to make an appearance in a bid to win over teen heartthrob Link Larkin.

Now, the acclaimed star of stage and screen Michael Ball is set to return to his iconic role as Edna Turnblad – Tracy’s mother – in a new production of Hairspray the Musical.

After winning an Olivier Award for his previous performances of Edna, fans of the show are already getting excited about the revival of the smash hit musical:

Further casting is still to be announced, but musical theatre enthusiasts can expect to hear all the usual Hairspray classics – such as Marc Shaiman’s infectiously feel-good songs ‘Good Morning, Baltimore’, ‘Big Blonde and Beautiful’ and ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’.

The uplifting show is due to hit the London Coliseum for 12 weeks from 23 April, 2020 and will be brought to audiences by the original creative team, including director Jack O’Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell.
