A new operastar is born

Darius Campbell has been voted winner of ITV1's Popstar to Operastar.

The Scottish singer won over the public with some incredible performances during the series, including stunning versions of Votre Toast and Grenada.

“I can’t believe it,” said delighted Darius as he heard the news, before performing his favourite aria, Non Piu Andrai, from The Marriage of Figaro one more time. Bernie Nolan, who came second, was gracious in defeat, claiming: “I’ve had a ball!”

The tension reached fever pitch as the two finalists first sang their favourite songs from the series, and then performed with their mentors. Darius and Rolando performed 'The Impossible Dream' from Man of La Mancha while Bernie and Katherine sang the Westside story hit 'Somewhere'.

After his crowd-pleasing duet with Rolando, Darius said: “I just found out that ten years ago in this studio I did my first final in Pop Stars, then two years later I was in the final of Pop Idol. Tonight, to be here with my family, means so much, thank you so, so much.”
