A host of performers, speakers, poets and Glenn Gould experts will gather this weekend to celebrate what would have been the pianist's 80th birthday.

Lang Lang is set to play on Candian legend Glenn Gould's refurbished piano at the University of Toronto this weekend. The two-day event is being held to mark what would have been Gould's 80th birthday.

He will be playing alongside a host of classical musicians, including four other pianists: jazz-master Uri Caine, Jean-François Zygel, Chris Donnelly, and 13-year-old Anastasia Rizikov. Other musicians are also making an appearance: 2Cellos, the classical cellists who specialise in reworkings of pop and rock songs will be performing, and the Canadian Children's Opera Company, among others.

While Gould has a small group of devoted fans, this conference is an attempt to bring a slice of his genius to a wider audience. A selection of speakers will be presenting, short films will be played, interspersed with performances throughout the weekend.

The conference, titled Dreamers Renegades Visionaries: The Glenn Gould Variations takes place on 22-23 September.
