We give our two cents on the psychedelic new ‘Cats’ trailer...
The first trailer for the new live action remake of Cats – out at the end of this year (December 2019) – has just landed, and people have had a lot to say about it.
Here are our thoughts on the first glimpse of the Tom Hooper musical remake, which will star Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson and James Corden among others.
You heard it here first: you gotta like purple to watch this film. It looks to be a very purple, psychedelic kaleidoscope dream of film.
Like, before we saw this trailer our cats slept on our beds. Now we might have to restrict them to a separate room of the house and lie awake forevermore worrying that they might look a bit like James Cordon.
This is confusing. Cats don't smile. The closest thing they feel to happiness is indifference. We wish we could summon indifference here and make the smiles stop.
Wait – can cats smile? Maybe they just choose not to around us. *sobs and runs out of the room carrying an existential crisis*
They have tails and they are swift. Tail(-or) Swift. See? Nailed it.
This is unfair fur distribution.
Even when she’s full cat, the woman is an absolute queen. That voice. That – everything.
Okay, just from this trailer, here’s the roll call: James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson and Royal Ballet’s star Principal, Francesca Haywood. MeoWOW.
The days of gross chicken scraps are officially over for cats, if we go with what’s in this trippy new trailer for Tom Hooper’s take on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
Licking the edges of an empty can of tuna? Neow thanks, we’ll take a fish fillet with some giant, impractical cutlery.
In all seriousness, this looks like good fun and we’ll be interested to see the finished project...
Cats is out in cinemas on 20 December 2019.
