This guitarist playing ‘Space Oddity’ to his dog is the loveliest thing ever

Today would have been David Bowie’s 73rd birthday, so here’s an adorable video of a guitarist playing ‘Space Oddity’ to his dog to commemorate the iconic singer.

David Bowie would have turned 73 today, so what better way to celebrate the artist and his work than with great music and adorable fluffy pets?

In the video (see above), acoustic guitarist Trench plucks out Bowie’s hit single on his instrument, while his lovely Labrador Maple reaches her head forward to lean against her master’s knee and soak up the beautiful music.

It’s a fitting tribute to the “Starman”, who released the melancholy track on 11 July, 1969, and it was his first single to chart in the UK.

Bowie was inspired to write the song – which tells the story of the launch of fictional astronaut Major Tom – after watching Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

And there are fewer sights more emotional than seeing a doggo get all teary from listening to music – we reckon every musician needs a fluffy companion like Maple.
