It’s been 50 years since ‘Space Oddity’ was first released, so here’s an adorable video of a guitarist playing David Bowie's hit single to his dog.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s No. 1 single, ‘Space Oddity’, so what better way to celebrate the legendary singer than with great music and adorable fluffy pets?

In the video (see above), acoustic guitarist Trench plucks out Bowie’s hit single on his instrument, while his lovely Labrador Maple reaches her head forward to lean against her master’s knee and soak up the beautiful music.

It’s a fitting tribute to the “Starman”, who released the melancholy track on 11 July, 1969, and it was his first single to chart in the UK.

Bowie was inspired to write the song – which tells the story of the launch of fictional astronaut Major Tom – after watching Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

And there are fewer sights more emotional than seeing a doggo get all teary from listening to music – we reckon every musician needs a fluffy companion like Maple.
