Throughout the week Classic FM’s presenters bring you the best new recordings, including world exclusives and premiere broadcasts of latest releases.
John Suchet plays a track from his featured Album of the Week at 10.15am every weekday.
This album brings together the finest music cinema has to offer, from the golden Hollywood hay-day film soundtrack Gone With the Wind (Max Steiner) and the ground-breaking sci-fi music for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, to epic scores to E.T. and Star Wars by the great John Williams.
Expertly recorded by conductor Iain Sutherland and the Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Great Classic Film Music captures the magic of cinema through the music we know and love.
John Brunning plays a track from his featured Drive Discovery at 6.20pm every weekday.
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet releases the latest instalment of his Haydn Piano Sonatas collection. In Volume 7, he shines a light on those lesser-known sonatas, some of whose authenticity has been questioned, but are still widely regarded as Haydn's own works. These sonatas only exist in copy form so putting a date on them is difficult, but you can hear the particular youthful exuberance in some sonatas versus the more mature writing heard in others.
The playful Sonata No. 8, bright No. 13 and the more evocative No. 58 are among the sonatas picked and recorded for this album, all executed with the utmost precision and ever-reliable interpretation of Bavouzet.
