Warner Classics
French-born Canadian pianist Alain Lefèvre returns to his roots in this album, My Paris Years: French Music for Piano.
It's a delightfully relaxing collection of classical piano pieces written by beloved French composers Debussy, Ravel, Satie and Franck. There are many well-known and loved works on the album, such as Debussy's Suite Bergamasque III: Clair de lune and Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte.
Erik Satie's 3 Gymnopédies are spread across the album too, allowing us to hear and appreciate the movements individually.
John Brunning plays a track from his featured Drive Discovery at 6.20pm every weekday.
Mozart: Piano Sonatas – Lars Vogt
Ondine
Pianist Lars Vogt has mastered a cycle of the Beethoven Piano Concertos, and further solo works by Bach and Schubert. Now, he turns his hand to Mozart's solo piano music, specifically his piano sonatas.
This album comprises four of Mozart's sonatas: Piano Sonatas No. 2 and 3, which Mozart composed during the same summer at only 18 years old; Piano Sonata No. 8, which he wrote shortly after the death of his mother; and Piano Sonata No. 13.
In this album, Lars Vogt demonstrates some of Mozart's earlier baroque-influenced work, as well as giving us a touching insight into the composer's personal life and his development as a composer.
