Andrea Bocelli’s classical-crossover anthem ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ has been given the R&B treatment. Hmm.

‘Goodbye’ is Jason Derulo’s new single, produced by David Guetta and featuring the vocals of Nicki Minaj. Derulo expects to include the song on his upcoming sixth studio album, along with ‘Swalla’ and ‘Tip Toe’.

To cut to the chase: it caught our attention because it samples ‘Time to Say Goodbye’, the Italian classical song made famous by Andrea Bocelli.

The chorus of Derulo’s remix uses the same melody as the original, but adds a hefty amount of Auto-Tune on Minaj’s vocals and has new lyrics, sung in English.

Here are the original lyrics:

Time to say goodbye
Paesi che non ho mai (countries that I have never)
Veduto e vissuto con te (seen and lived with you)

And the new lyrics:

Time to say goodbye
Don’t leave me alone, just for the night
I need you, I need you tonight

We’ll be expecting Bocelli to release a classical reinterpretation of ‘Wiggle’ very soon…
