Last Monday we live streamed the opening gala concert of the Tchaikovsky Competition from the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory – and now you can watch the whole thing again, below! The all-Tchaikovsky programme included the Capriccio Italien, music from The Nutcracker and his First Piano Concerto performed by brilliant pianist – and former winner of the competition – Daniil Trifonov.

This year, for the first time, Medici TV are live-streaming the whole competition – and you can find out more about Medici TV here.
The first-ever Tchaikovsky Competition took place in 1958 and included competitions for pianists and violinists. It now takes place every four years and includes categories for singers and cellists.
It has launched the careers of pianists including Peter Donohoe, Van Cliburn and Nikolai Lugansky, violinists Viktoria Mullova and Gidon Kremer and soprano Deborah Voigt.
