'The Silver Violin', Nicola Benedetti's new album, has made it to no. 36 in the UK official album charts, coming ahead of pop artists like Justin Bieber.
Nicola Benedetti's 'The Silver Violin' has followed topping the Amazon music charts by entering the UK official album charts at no. 36 yesterday evening. It is believed that it is the first purely classical music recording to do so since Nigel Kennedy in 1991.
The chart entry has displaced the likes of teen idol Justin Bieber and urban star Labrinth to reach the no. 36 spot. The news comes after the album topped the Amazon music chart on Friday.
Benedetti commented: "I am thrilled that a disc of classical music is making such an impact on the charts. For music and classical music this is a huge achievement. I hope people are listening to and enjoying some Korngold!"
The album contains a variety of film music favourites including works by John Williams and Howard Shore, as well as the Korngold Violin Concerto.
