This week's choice is a new recording of Tchaikovsky's Symphonies No.1 and No.6.
The recording comes from two performances at London's Royal Festival Hall, which took place in Autumn 2008 as part of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's 'Revealing Tchaikovsky' festival.
The disc gives us a chance to uncover something of Tchaikovsky's musical journey as a composer, showcasing as it does his first and final symphonies. No.1 is subtitled 'Winter Daydreams' - and there's an innocence about the piece which contrasts powerfully with the brooding 'Pathetique', composed just a few days before Tchaikovsky's death.
