Albrecht Mayer - Voices of Bach

Albrecht Mayer, Principal Oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic, searches for new classical repertoire.

Voices of Bach features beautiful vocal and cor anglais music by J.S. Bach, which Mayer has transcribed for oboe and orchestra. The popular works include the chorales 'Jesu bleibet meine Freunde' and 'Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme'.  Mayer is accompanied by the English Concert, one of the world’s greatest Baroque orchestras.

Mayer is always searching for new repertoire for his instrument. His last CD of Bach transcriptions for oboe and orchestra immediately entered the German classical charts at number two.

Although he made his name as an orchestral player, Albrecht Mayer's solo performances are brilliant and distinctive, thanks to the tone of his instrument and his handling of well-known tunes. A fantastic album of Baroque tunes, given a new lease of life for the modern oboe.
