The Leeds International Piano Competition, led by Dame Fanny Waterman, has selected Lang Lang as its Global Ambassador.
Renowned concert pianist Lang Lang has been selected by the Leeds International Piano Competition to be its Global Ambassador. Dame Fanny Waterman, chairman and artistic director of the competition, bestowed the honour on Lang, who will visit the competition on September 9th.
Announcing the news on his Twitter feed, Lang described the appointment as an "Incredible honour." Waterman commented: "In his chosen repertoire he is absolutely exemplary. Lang Lang has a pair of hands every pianist would envy."
The competition itself kicks off on August 29th with the first of several heats. The final will take place across two nights, the 14th and 15th September, and will be led by the Hallé Orchestra and Mark Elder.
The competition has previously been won by such piano luminaries as Murray Perahia and Artur Pizarro. Find out more about the competition here.
