Recorded live at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1963, this concert feels just as vivid 40 years later. It’s a meeting of minds, each performer displaying a strong individual personality – Britten smooth and intent, Menuhin soaring above with intonation that doesn’t always work and Gendron an extrovert and eloquent cellist. It’s rather like listening to actors in a play arguing out the most ingenious of scenarios.
