The Grammy nominated mandolinist takes on Bach in a brilliant new recording.

In 2010, Avi Avital became the first mandolinist to ever receive a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Soloist. This charismatic Israeli musician is set to become a well-known champion of his beautiful and underestimated instrument with this, his debut album on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label.

Included here are three Bach concertos, all transcribed for the mandolin by Avi Avital himself. The recording is already drawing impressive reviews for Avital's skilled mandolin arrangements of some of Bach's most famous concertos.

It’s a delightful album, and it’s released this week.  Join John Suchet every morning at around 10.15 to hear something from it for yourself.
