Rachmaninov is brought to life via the piano roll, even if he sounds ‘mechanical’. John O’Conor is commendably dreamy in three nocturnes, and if Jon Kimura Parker hardly lights up the sky with the delightful A flat Ballade, Malcolm Frager makes amends with an enchanting Andante spianato. Yolanda Kondonassis’s harp versions of three preludes certainly create a novel effect.
