Alex will also be marking the premiere, on 2 May 1794 of one of Haydn's most famous symphonies, and explaining why the police arrested the composer Samuel Wesley on this day in 1825.
Looking across the rest of the week, Alex reveals why the great Italian composer Rossini fainted from shock in May 1864, and he celebrates the music of Elgar – named Master of the King's Music on 5th May 1924.
