All this week Classic FM is celebrating the work of its Orchestra in the North East, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, with a series of exclusively recorded concerts.
Orchestra of The Sage Gateshead, the Royal Northern Sinfonia has built a distinctive reputation as a fresh thinking, versatile orchestra, performing repertoire spanning three centuries and regularly commissioned new work.

Monday 26 January
The first concert is directed by the orchestra's leader, Bradley Creswick, and features Elgar’s serene Serenade for Strings and Mozart’s Symphony No.39. There are also two concertos - Haydn’s popular Cello Concerto No.2 and Vaughan Williams’s Oboe Concerto.

Jane Jones present this second concert recorded at The Sage Gateshead, in which the Royal Northern Sinfonia performs an all-Bach programme under the direction of Laurence Cummings, as well as studio recordings of Schubert and Elgar.

The final concert of the series includes Swiss-Italian pianist Francesco Piemontesi in a thrilling performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.4 and an exclusively recorded concert performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.4 directed from the violin by the orchestra’s co-leader, Kyra Humphreys.
