Alex James's Date Night - Saturday 6 September 2014, 7pm

Alex James showcases the genius of Luciano Pavarotti on the anniversary of his death.

Seven years ago this Saturday, Luciano Pavarotti passed away in the Italian town of Modena. Tonight, Alex James celebrates the most famous tenor the world has ever known, featuring a range of Pavarotti’s finest recordings.

Alex also marks the première of Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis on this day in 1910; the 80th birthday of outgoing Master of the Queen's Music, Peter Maxwell Davies, on 8th September; and the extraordinary scenes at the funeral of Grieg in September 1907, when 40,000 people lined the streets of his home town to pay their respects.
