The Full Works Concert - Monday 10 November 2014
Tasmin Little playing Elgar's stunning Violin Concerto is the centrepiece of tonight's concert of musical anniversaries.
Jane Jones introduces tonight’s Full Works Concert which celebrates a number of works given their premiere on this day.
The concert opens with the overture to Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, followed by Bizet’s first suite of incidental music from L’Arlésienne, which was also premiered this day in 1872.
Tasmin Little, pictured, is the outstanding soloist in tonight's performance of Elgar’s deeply moving Violin Concerto, first performed in 1910 at the Queen’s Hall with the composer himself conducting Fritz Kreisler on the violin.
Also premiered this week, a suite from Aaron Copland’s dramatic and exciting Billy the Kid ballet.
