David Mellor: Sunday 14 April 2013

David takes a close look at the wonderful EMI Icons boxed set.

This week, David has been inspired by a recently released EMI Icons boxset to dedicate his show to the Romanian conductor Constantin Silvestri. Growing up near Bournemouth, David attended many of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s concerts, with Silvestri – the Principal Conductor from 1961 until his death in 1969 - on the podium. As a result, the exciting maestro was a formative part of David's classical music education, and over the two hours he'll select key recordings and live performances, including Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Vaughan Williams, In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin and The Pines of Rome by Respighi.
