Andrew Collins predicts these five soundtracks will be nominated for 'Best Original Score' category at the 90th Academy Awards

From a shortlist of 141, these are the five soundtracks Andrew Collins and the Saturday Night at the Movies team predict will be nominated for Best Original Score at the 90th Academy Awards in March 2018.
Coco - Michael Giacchino
Directed by Lee Unkrich
The first nomination we are going to predict is for Coco, the Disney-Pixar movie which is out now and packing people of all ages into cinemas. The score is composed by Michael Giacchino, a brilliant composer for animation, who wrote the superb score for Up (2009). This score is very different - it's Mexican and set on the Day of the Dead, so it includes lots of fiesta music and is very colourful! We absolutely love this score and if you play a track from it, you immediately want to get up and dance!
Dunkirk - Hans Zimmer
Directed by Christopher Nolan
As it was released back in July, it is easy to forget Dunkirk is in the running for an Oscar in 2018. Considered to be one of the best films and scores of 2017, it was the one film of the year which you simply could not take away the score from the visuals - the score and the film worked together in perfect harmony, then builds, and builds, and builds...
The Shape of Water - Alexandre Desplat
Directed by Guillermo del Toro
The Shape of Water, a fantasy movie set during the Cold War, is not out yet in the UK. It's a kind-of monster film and a love story rolled in together. It's a very visual film, yet the music by Alexandre Desplat is absolutely delightful. Adding his French touch, there is a lot of accordion in the score and its sweetness suits the love story perfectly.
Phantom Thread - Jonny Greenwood
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson
Jonny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson have been working together for some time now. Phantom Thread, is however, something very special. It is also the last ever film Daniel Day-Lewis will ever do (he has announced his retirement). The film is set in the 1950s in London and Jonny Greenwood has risen to the occasion and written a lush, beautiful and in some cases quite a convential score, compared to his usual ambient style.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - John Williams
Directed by Rian Johnson
John Williams has two scores which could be nominated this year - Star Wars: The Last Jedi and his most recent score, The Post. However, we think his score for The Last Jedi will be the one that could win him what would be his 51st nomination at the Academy Awards. If you love Star Wars, it's a great score because it's a continuation of a lot of themes which we've heard before, but he's also added of plenty new material too.
