The Classic FM Chart - Sunday 23 August 2015

It's all change at the top of the Chart again - and there are some fascinating new entries.

Last week Craig Ogden toppled Classically Chilled from the No.1 spot. This week the super smooth compilation mounted a revenge attack and succeeded in pushing Craig to No.2. 

Elsewhere there are some surprising contemporary works making their first appearance in the Chart. A new entry at No.10 comes from Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. They're offering the world-premiere recording of John Adams's Absolute Jest. It's an inspired and witty take on Beethoven's spirited scherzos.

But the highest new entry comes in at No.8. Lutoslawski's experimental Second Symphony sees the Berlin Philharmonic and Rattle return to the Chart, with a thrilling performance, coupled with the composer's Piano Concerto, brilliantly played by Kristian Zimerman.
