The Classic FM Chart - 15 March 2015, 5pm
The Classic FM Chart has a new No.1 for the first time this year. And there's a new entry for Arvo Part.
They said it could never happen – but it has. André Rieu's reign at the top of the Classic FM Chart has come to an end. The coup has been executed by The 50 Greatest Pieces of Classical Music, a compilation featuring the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by David Parry.
Last week's Classic FM Drive Featured Album – Journey - Harp to soothe the soul by harpist Claire Jones – is this week's highest new entry at No.5. And there's a new entry at No.9 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Estonian holy minimalist Arvo Part: The Tallis Scholars present Tintinnabuli. "In all my searchings for inspiring contemporary music I have not come across anyone to rival him," says the ensemble's director, Peter Phillips.
