23 low brass playing the Game of Thrones theme is monumentally epic

Season 6 of Game of Thrones starts tonight – and an extremely low bass version of the theme seems appropriate.

Surely no good could come from 23 brass musicians getting together in a recording studio? The video below would suggest otherwise.

A collection of New York low brass players planned this performance for a year. Apparently that’s how long it took to find six contrabass trombone players who were all free at the same time. The low brass ensemble of 23 was rounded off with: 11 bass trombones, six tenor trombones, six tubas, and three cimbassos.
