This new CD marks the programme’s 30th anniversary and includes new recordings of extracts from Carl Davis’s soundtrack including the main theme with its gutsy opening bars. To widen the picture, the disc is peppered with popular songs of the time – Gracie Fields and Vera Lynn are both there – as well as historic speeches from Chamberlain, Churchill and Field Marshall Montgomery.
