Alfie used to work as dressing room security in music venues to some big names like Tom Jones and Pet Shop Boys. Once, young Alfie was singing while polishing cars at a sports car factory near Blackpool when a client told him he should audition for the D'Oyly Carte opera company. He did - and got a year-long job singing in the chorus.
