This week Catherine Bott asks, "Who are the great male voices?" And it's not just all about opera - male voices can be tenderly pure at the top end and robustly boisterous in the lower reaches.

Expect to hear the great tenors tonight in any case - Jussi Bjorling, Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo.

But there's the haunting counter-tenor of Andreas Scholl and the fruity bass-baritone of Bryn Terfel.

Chanticleer, the Vienna Boys Choir, and the Hilliard Ensemble make the case for all-male vocal ensembles.
