Catherine Bott asks, 'What's so special about Vienna?'
During this period of new year festivities, Catherine Bott asks, "What is so special about Vienna?" - a city that has become synonymous with the new year and great music.
Catherine goes back as far as the formation of the Vienna Boys Choir which was founded in 1498. We hear them singing music by Mozart and Bruckner, two composers who flourished in the city.

There's also Gluck - who premiered his revolutionary opera Orfeo ed Euridice in the city; Mozart's 'rival', Salieri, who dominated Italian language opera in Vienna; and a Danse Diabolique by Hellmesberger from the Golden Age when operetta and waltzes dominated Viennese life.
