The world-famous opera star makes her first appearance on a London stage in a musical next summer – and here's how you can get tickets
Next June, Renée Fleming will star in the London premiere of the six-time Tony-winning musical The Light in the Piazza, when it brings the magic of a Florentine summer to London’s Southbank.
Directed by Daniel Evans, The Light in the Piazza tells the story of American Margaret Johnson (played by Fleming), and her daughter Clara’s trip to the Italian city of Florence.
When the wind whisks Clara’s hat off her head… and into the arms of the charming Fabrizio Nacarelli, it’s love at first sight. But Clara isn’t quite what she appears, and soon they all have to confront a secret that’s been in the shadows for too long.
The orchestra of Opera North will perform Adam Guettel’s enchanting music. And the production will run for just 20 performances from 14 June 2019.
Fleming said: “For my London theatre debut, to play Margaret Johnson — a fascinating, deeply human character whose predicament I find incredibly moving — was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.”
