Catherine Bott sets out to prove that not all 20th century music is hard work.
Some people tend to think that modern music is hard work, and certainly the 20th century was filled with composers who wanted to push the boundaries and challenge all the expected conventions of classical music.
There was, however, another side to music of the 20th century: the spritely neo-classicism of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, for example; the dazzling orchestral colours of Ravel, and William Walton; and the passionate romanticism of Samuel Barber.
So tonight, Catherine sets out to prove that not all 20th century music is hard to listen to.
Join her and bring an open mind.
