Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Classical Music - Sunday 20 September 2015, 9pm
How have the great composers been inspired by all things Equidae (in other words, horses, donkeys, mules)?
For tonight's show Catherine accepted the challenge to discover how music has imitated the sounds of wildlife, following a listener enquiry on the subject.
Along the way however, she got sidetracked by the sheer number of great pieces of music that have been inspired by our friends of the equus genus – horses, donkeys, and mules (but sadly no zebras).
So saddle up for everything from a hunt by Beethoven to a ride on a little white donkey by Jacques Ibert, and a red pony by Aaron Copland alongside John Williams's touching film score for War Horse.
