In the fifth episode of her ambitious series, acclaimed singer and broadcaster Catherine Bott turns her attention to something she knows quite a lot about – the soprano voice.  

Catherine begins by marking the birth of Maria Callas 90 years ago on 2 December 1923, and then compares the genius of Callas to other sopranos – her contemporary Joan Sutherland, for example. 

Then there are all the different kinds of soprano voice – from dramatic coloratura to lyric, from soubrette to spinto.
