Andrew Collins explores the music that accompanied the big screen's best biopics.
Every week there's a different theme on Classic FM’s weekly celebration of cinema.
Tonight Andrew Collins is taking the lead from a suggestion from Maureen Jackson in Bristol, who has suggested a show based on true life stories.
So Andrew is delving into the world of music from biopics. There's the vast expanse of the desert as conjured up by Maurice Jarre for Lawrence of Arabia (pictured), the pulsing pace-setting theme by Vangelis for Chariots of Fire, and John Barry's sweeping romance with lions in Born Free.
Less well-known music comes from Thomas Newman - for Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts as a single mother who almost single-handedly brings down a power company accused of polluting the city's water supply.
And there's Gary Yershon's Oscar-nominated score for Mike Leigh's biopic of the great painter, Mr.Turner.
