The New Year’s Day Concert from Vienna is one of the world’s most famous classical music events, broadcast from the flower-filled Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein to more than 40 million viewers in some 90 countries.
For the 2015 programme last Thursday, the Vienna Philharmonic invited its Honorary Conductor Zubin Mehta to conduct the concert for the fifth time, following in the footsteps of such legends as Herbert von Karajan and Claudio Abbado.

The programme this year commemorated 650 years of the University of Vienna and 200 years of the Technical University of Vienna, and featured compositions by both Johann Strauss I and Johann Strauss II, Eduard and Josef Strauss, Franz von Suppé and Hans Christian Lumbye. Five pieces were premiered for the first time at one of these events and there's plenty more to enjoy here including the popular Acceleration Waltz and Champagne Galop, and the little-heard Explosions Polka.
