Simon Rattle and the Berlin Phil with Bizet’s Carmen

EMI Classics’ studio opera recording of Bizet’s Carmen marks the 10th anniversary of the artistic dream-team partnership of Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

On this brand new album, Rattle and the orchestra are joined by Magdalena Kozena (otherwise known as Mrs Rattle) in the title role, alongside the fantastic tenor Jonas Kaufmann who plays Don José.

Carmen is set in Seville and stretches across four acts. Its steamy nature shocked audiences at the time. In fact, Bizet was seen as quite the rebel for having set to music something so apparently salacious.
