BSO becomes Classic FM’s latest partner orchestra.
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra has been announced as Classic FM’s Orchestra in the South of England.
The new partnership intends to extend the orchestra's music-making to even wider audiences. It already presents more than 140 performances a year across 35 venues in the South and South West of England, reaching 5,000 concert-goers each week across 10,000 square miles.
The partnership is the latest in Classic FM's highly-successful ventures with six major UK orchestras: the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra; Philharmonia Orchestra; Orchestra of Opera North; Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Royal Northern Sinfonia; and the London Symphony Orchestra.
'In our 120th consecutive year of music-making it is exciting to launch this new partnership with Classic FM,' said Dougie Scarfe, Bournemouth's Chief Executive, 'and we are greatly looking forward to working together to inspire both our loyal supporters and build new audiences for the future.'
Sam Jackson, Managing Editor of Classic FM, said, 'We believe classical music should be accessible to everyone - and we're delighted to launch this exciting new partnership with an ensemble that shares our passion for bringing live music to as wide an audience as possible.'
The partnership kicks off on Saturday 26 October with a new concert series at Bournemouth Pavilion. Classic FM and the orchestra will also work together to extend their shared passion for classical music in many of the towns and cities served by the Orchestra, from full symphonic concerts in Poole, Bournemouth, Exeter, Bristol, Portsmouth, Brighton and Cheltenham to a multitude of Education and Participation projects which see BSO musicians working with people of all ages throughout the region, from Cornwall and Gloucester to the Isle of Wight.
Today’s announcement also coincides with the launch of a fresh new-look website for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra which utilises the most up-to-date technology to enable users on any digital device to experience the website at its best automatically.
