Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.1 was written while he was a student at the Moscow Conservatory, but underwent considerable revisions up to 1917. His Piano Concerto No.4, meanwhile, was written after a considerable break from composition as he was kept busy as a touring performer in the USA.
Both concertos are featured on this new album, performed by Noriko Ogawa with the Malmo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.
To hear it for yourself, join John Brunning every evening this week at around 6.15.
