We’ll be celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle with a series of special programmes across the weekend.
The Full Works Concert (Friday, 8pm)
Catherine Bott will be introducing two hours of wedding-themed music, including Saint-Saens’ Wedding Cake to Goldmark’s Rustic Wedding Symphony, as well as well-loved classics like Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen and Stanley’s Trumpet Voluntary.
Alan Titchmarsh and Bill Turnbull, live from the Royal Wedding (Saturday, from 7am)
Two broadcasting legends have managed to bag a spot on the Long Walk in Windsor, and will be bringing you up-to-the-minute coverage of what’s happening, as well as some suitably matrimonial music to go with it.
Saturday Night At The Movies (Saturday, 5pm)
Andrew Collins presents a special programme exploring how the British monarchy has been depicted on the big and small screen. Tonight’s musical highlights include selections from The Crown, Wolf Hall and The Queen, as well as the scores for The King’s Speech, Mrs Brown and The Young Victoria.
Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Classical Music (Sunday, 9pm)
Catherine Bott rounds off Classic FM’s special weekend of programmes for the Royal Wedding with a programme exploring regal marriages through the ages – and also in the arts.
From Hubert Parry’s 'I was Glad', as played at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, to a fairy-tale royal wedding from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn, Catherine presents the perfect musical celebration – along with music to match each of the elements in the famous saying ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’!
