Too broke to buy a viola? Don’t let that stop you from making beautiful music.

Sometimes, playing in a string quartet can get repetitive. Here’s how you can mix things up a bit.

Violist Efdal Altun has decided to abandon his instrument in this performance of Haydn’s String Quartet No. 1, in favour of a very large, squealing balloon.

All things considered, the tuning is surprisingly accurate, and they somehow all manage to keep a straight face throughout. We are very impressed.
