Film composer Michael Giacchino has confirmed via Twitter that he will be write the soundtrack for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.
After the speculation that he might be composing the soundtracks for the new JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars movies, Michael Giacchino has confirmed that his next project will in fact be to score the new Planet Of The Apes film.
Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Giacchino posted a picture of a cartoon monkey with a conductor's baton, saying: "This is how I will dress when recording the score for Matt Reeves DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES!"
Director Matt Reeves previously directed the 2008 monster movie Cloverfield, for which Giacchino composed an orchestral suite. Reeves replied to Giacchino's tweet: "What I can't wait for is to hear a Giacchino Ape Score...!!! :)". Music for the Planet Of The Apes franchise is dominated by the legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith, who composed the music for the original movie.
Coincidentally, Goldsmith also wrote music for the Star Trek franchise, for which Giacchino is now the regular composer, thanks to his long-term association with director JJ Abrams.
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is scheduled for release in May 2014.
