This is heartbreakingly beautiful. Have a listen to Voces8's flawless rendition of Pearsall's 'Lay a Garland'

We love all of Voces8's gorgeous performances, but their rendition of 'Lay a Garland' by Robert Lucas de Pearsall is absolute perfection.

Voces8 have performed the sublime madrigal in remembrance of what is a bittersweet week for them. In 2005, they performed their first public concert whilst London suffered the tragedy of 7/7. According to the group, this work has held a special place in their repertoire ever since - and as soon as you hear these passionate, anguished harmonies you'll know why.

'Lay a Garland' was written by the English composer Robert Lucas de Pearsall in 1840. The text is taken from the Beaumont and Fletcher play The Maids Tragedy, and is spoken by a heartbroken woman who has been parted from her betrothed.
