Braley's gorgeous Gershwin
Frank Braley’s gutsy performance on this recording of Gershwin's piano works, including some of his lesser known pieces, is engrossing

The piano was the heartbeat of Gershwin’s creative life, and Frank Braley’s gutsy pianism throws refreshing light onto some of his lesser-known works. Miniatures like the mischievous Impromptu in Two Keys and Three-Quarter Blues are deftly turned mini-masterpieces. The more familiar Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris are heard in piano transcriptions and the lack of orchestral adornment highlights the quality of Gershwin’s material. An absorbing listen.
