Oscar nominee and composer of the soundtracks for both Argo and Zero Dark Thirty Alexandre Desplat chats to Classic FM's Anne-Marie Minhall.

Currently up to his fifth Oscar nomination, composer Alexandre Desplat is no stranger to the glitz and glamour of the most important event in the movie calendar. His score for Argo is up against the likes John Williams in the Best Original Music category, but he's not as competitive as you might imagine.

Speaking to Classic FM's Anne-Marie Minhall, Desplat opened up on the process of composing music for both Argo, for which he is nominated, and Zero Dark Thirty, another heavily garlanded film from this year.

What's more, he tells Anne-Marie exactly what it's like to go up against the legendary John Williams at the Oscars, as well as the perks of going to the ceremony itself - apparently it's a great way to catch up with friends: "It's nice to be able to see them because otherwise we don't see each other… It's a good thing that we can hang out, and I hope I'll be able to pay my respect to John Williams!"
